Great Restaurants of the Hamptons:
Eating Well on the South Fork
By Sheridan Sansegundo
ISBN 0-9740201-8-4

The dean of Hamptons restaurant critics, Sheridan Sansegundo has been reviewing the good, the bad, and the fly-by-night for nine years. During that time she has chronicled the growth of Long Island’s East End restaurant scene, as the area has become a mecca for world-class chefs. Great Restaurants of the Hamptons: Eating Well on the South Fork brings together over 75 of her reviews originally published in The East Hampton Star.

Located on the South Fork of Long Island, the Hamptons are blessed—as few other locales in the world are—with a bounty of local food sources. Montauk and Shinnecock are home to two prodigious fishing fleets. Baymen provide world-class shellfish. Thriving local farms now produce an ever-expanding variety of vegetables (as well as the long-time staples of potatoes and sweet corn.) Local artisans make cheeses, honey, and preserves—even chocolate. Add to this cornucopia the thirty vineyards that comprise the redoubtable Long Island wine industry and it’s easy to see why the area is irresistible to restaurateurs and foodies alike.

Sheridan writes about this varied scene with verve and veteran sagacity. The range is great: from celebrity hangouts like Nick & Toni’s to shore side clam bars, from the latest “New Wave” inventions to the simple pleasures of lobster and crab.

Reading Sheridan is almost as tasty as being there!

From the Foreword by Miriam Ungerer:
“Sheridan brings an easy conversational tone to her reviews.… [They] are careful and balanced and she tempers criticisms with whatever good points she can find about the places she goes. And she goes everywhere.”
